According to the FTC’s most recent reporting\, elder fraud losses nationwide surpassed $2.4 billion in 2024\, with Ohio among the states seeing significant impact. Total reported losses to older Ohioans are well over $226 million annually. \nFrom fraudulent medical billing to identity theft and deceptive phone scams\, these schemes can have lasting consequences—both financially and emotionally—for older adults and their families. As scammers become more sophisticated\, these crimes continue to grow in both frequency and severity\, increasing the urgency for prevention and education. \nTo address this growing threat\, the Ohio Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) invites older adults along with their caregivers\, to attend a free Fraud Prevention Expo designed to help them recognize\, avoid\, and report scams.
