Fraud Prevention Expo for Ohio Seniors
May 14 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
The Ohio Senior Medicare Patrol will host its inaugural Fraud Prevention Expo on Thursday, May 14, from 10:00a-1:00p at the Community Action Agency of Cincinnati and Hamilton County located at 1740 Langdon Farm Road in Cincinnati.
Fraud targeting older Ohioans continues to rise, costing them tens of millions of dollars each year and putting their personal information, Medicare benefits, and financial security at risk. According to the FTC’s most recent reporting, elder fraud losses nationwide surpassed $2.4 billion in 2024, with Ohio among the states seeing significant impact. Total reported losses to older Ohioans are well over $226 million annually.
From fraudulent medical billing to identity theft and deceptive phone scams, these schemes can have lasting consequences—both financially and emotionally—for older adults and their families. As scammers become more sophisticated, these crimes continue to grow in both frequency and severity, increasing the urgency for prevention and education.
To address this growing threat, the Ohio Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) invites older adults along with their caregivers, to attend a free Fraud Prevention Expo designed to help them recognize, avoid, and report scams. This engaging, experiential event offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from trusted experts while gaining practical, real-world skills to stay safe.
Attendees will have the chance to interact with representatives from leading agencies on the front lines of fraud prevention, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Social Security Administration, the Better Business Bureau, Agencies Serving Older Adults, and more! These experts will share current scam trends, warning signs, and clear steps to protect personal information and assets.
Free parking and admission and no registration required.
